Pianist John Nam has a great sense tonal sense, smart phrasing and emotional urgency in his playing - all in evidence on his debut offering for PKO Records called "Energy and Angular Momentum". The sessions feature saxcat Diego Rivera (Michigan State University Professors) and acclaimed violinist wunderkind Jeremy Kittel. The title track is joyous, soulful, and smart - one of five originals - and the covers are unusual picks well realized. Check out Dexter Gordon"s "Kong Neptune" and Joe Henderson"s "Tetragon". I encourage you to seek out these cats at the clubs and run down their recordings as a means of lending further support.
